OCI Solar PV Business

OCI is a global solar project developer with a presence in key markets including the U.S. China, and Korea. As of the end of 2021, OCI had developed IPP and EPC projects totaling 1,250MWdc worldwide.
OCI joined a large-scale solar PV project with a total of 573MWdc in Texas, USA between 2012 and 2017. This was North America’s largest solar PV project. The Alamo project is meaningful in that OCI, the first Korean company, to advance into the North American solar PV market and was recognized for its business capability and opened the era of solar power in earnest.

Later, OCI advanced into China’s decentralized solar PV generation market by constructing a total of 22 MW Solar PV plants. It has been pioneering the Chinese market while constructing solar PV plants with a high durability, one by one, in a close network with local governments in China.

OCI established OCI Power in 2012 to promote domestic solar PV business. It provides a one-stop solar PV business solution by diversifying business areas from the construction, operation and maintenance(O&M) to project financing with OCI solar PV Fund, as well as project development based on its experience in the development and operation of solar PV plants in the domestic Solar PV market.

In September 2019, OCI Power signed a MOU for the reuse of EV batteries with Hyundai Motor Group to combine renewable energy with ESS. In 2021, it implemented the first project to evaluate the performance and reliability of recycled EV batteries for ESS. A 300 KWh ESS using second-life EV batteries was installed in a 727 kW solar power plant at OCI Specialty Gongju plant. Validation testing is currently underway.
